What is the difference between a gel manicure and a builder gel manicure?

The difference between a gel manicure and a builder gel manicure comes down to their formulation, purpose, and strength.

Gel manicure

Consistency: Thin, similar to regular nail polish.

Purpose: Provides color and shine; meant for aesthetic enhancement.

Strength: Offers light durability, but doesn't significantly reinforce the nail. It is a good option if you want to keep your nails relatively short.

Best For: People with healthy natural nails looking for a long-lasting manicure (2–3 weeks).

Builder Gel Manicure

Consistency: Thick and viscous, almost like syrup.

Purpose: Adds structure, strength, and length; can be used to sculpt or reinforce nails.

Strength: Much stronger than gel polish and can be used for overlays or extensions.

Best For: Weak, brittle, or short nails or people who want added strength or nail extensions.

Where are you located?

I'm located in Kent, near Lake Youngs Elementary School. Just 15 minutes from Highways 405, SR-167, and WA-18. The exact address will be sent via email and text once your appointment is confirmed.

Do you offer Acrylic or Dip Powder services?

I do not offer acrylic or dip powder services, as I specialize exclusively in gel. These options provide a more natural look, feel lighter on the nails, and in my opinion are the highest quality and healthiest choice for long term nail care. If you’re interested about switching to gel or builder gel, I’d love to talk with you. Just book a “First Time Client” appointment. After booking, you’ll receive a quick form to help me better understand your goals and tailor the experience to you.

Do you fill other people’s work?

No, I don’t fill work done by other technicians. To ensure the quality, durability, and consistency of my services, I only work with product I’ve applied myself. If you arrive with existing product on your nails, a removal service will be added to your appointment.

Do you offer a referral program?

Yes! When you refer a friend, they’ll get 20% off their first appointment. As a thank you, for every three friends you refer who book and complete their appointments, you’ll receive a free nail appointment. Just have them mention your name when booking!

What art should I get on my nails?

Will you fix a broken nail for free?

If a nail breaks within 2 weeks of your appointment, I’m happy to fix it for free, just reach out and I’ll do my best to fit you in for a quick repair. If it’s been more than 2 weeks, it’s usually time to schedule a full appointment. That said, if you’re having a nail emergency (like an event, photoshoot, or trip), let me know and I’ll do what I can to help!

How do I make my manicure last as long as possible?

To help your manicure last, apply cuticle oil and hand lotion daily. Hydrated nails are less likely to chip or break. Wearing gloves while cleaning or gardening also helps protect your nails from damage. Be careful when opening cans or packages as your nails may be strong, but they’re not tools! And avoid picking at them, as that can cause lifting or breakage.

When do I need to book my next appointment?

That really depends on your lifestyle and how hard you are on your nails, but generally, I recommend booking every 2-3 weeks. Waiting longer can increase the risk of chipping or breakage. If you have a builder gel manicure and need any nail repairs outside the 2-week window, there is a $6 charge per nail.

Are you a licensed nail tech ?

Yes, as an independent nail technician, I hold a valid Washington State Manicurist License. Additionally, my business, Cedar Nails LLC, is fully licensed and insured in the state of Washington as a nail salon.
